The Suffolk Local History Council provides resources to people working on projects relating to the local history of Suffolk.

Gwen Dyke Project Fund

Purpose: to provide interest-free loans, or grants, to help publication of Suffolk local The Fund is administered by an appointed panel of the Suffolk Local

Applications: Applications for assistance from the Gwen Dyke Project fund should be addressed to: The Hon. Secretary, at the address given on the Contact SLHC page.

Loan of Equipment

Displays: The Council has a number of sets of display boards available on loan to members and Society members for use at exhibitions, etc. They are fabric (nylon loop) covered, suitable for Velcro backed display material and can be erected from floor level as free standing units, two high, with or without header, or as a larger number of table mounted displays.

School Local History Projects: Jack Carter Initiative

The Council would be delighted to offer help for School Local History projects. The information on the Review Articles page and the Organizations page may whet the appetites of school historians.

Contact with a local history recorder or other local historian may be available and relevant articles from the Suffolk Review may be had either free or at reduced rates.

Slide Collection

The Council has a specialised slide collection of pre 1973 views.

About one fifth of the collection is of pre First World War scenes including some 60 of Ipswich.

The remainder are all pre 1973 and include churches, secular buildings and some aerial views.

Ipswich docks, river and streets since demolished are well represented.
